My own summer holiday started in the beginning of July. I had a plan to go and check TransEuroTrail section that was planned ready and route was made but it needed to be checked before it can be live. This section is East-West Section Parikkala – Jyväskylä. And I also wanted to do more TET-riding all together. -To finally see all that I’m responsible of! So on the 3rd day of my holiday I started. Route for Day 1 looked like this:
From the west it was first Section 5 until it reaches section 1 in Siuntio. Then only the “beginning part” of Section 1 until I could continue Section 41 going around Helsinki and ride further east…
Hopom Lake & Magic Beach
Then after Hopom Lake I turned away from TET to ride to Loviisa and meet a friend who lives there. I was also offered to sleep the night… Here’s the video of the Day 1:
Biketeam Finland was helping me in a difficult situation. I got a loaner bike for one week since I had some interesting things to do (with motorcycle)! This was before I got my own bike back.
It was an interesting ride! To realize that Suzuki is very capable of doing pretty much same things than BMW GS. The ground clearance is little bit shorter and factory tires wouldn’t be ok in muddy conditions but otherwise the difference to GS is almost zero. We did also some “OffRoad” riding! Here’s the video:
The next day I did already pretty much same kind of riding with this GS than I usually do! Checking TransEuroTrail Tracks. And also some offroad tracks. GS feels heavier than my own XChallenge especially in the tricky parts. But other than that the 800GS is very “Adventurous”! Here’s the video:
I would enjoy more riding with GS compare to my own bike if I would do many days long trip. In the paved road this bike feels pretty much like any other road bike and when you come to the gravel roads and smaller forest tracks it is still very capable doing all you want. The big Touratech screen I would change to smaller right away -I didn’t like it!
I’m a member of motorg ry and members have a chance to borrow a motorcycle for free!! It’s a Yamaha MT-07 and I took it for me yesterday. It felt very good to do some proper Street Riding after almost 2 years!!
#MotOrgBike
Then I attached my Insta360 camera to bikes handlebar and went to Hymyilevän Motoristin Kevätpäivä motorcycle meeting and parade. This was my fourth time in this meeting. The #HMKP places I’ve been were Lahti 2011, Jyväskylä 2013, Mäntsälä 2016 and now in Helsinki 2023. Here’s The video I made:
I’ve always been listening music. So Eurovision song contest makes no difference. Ok… It’s been quite many years when there wasn’t too many interesting songs but NOW there is! 2023 First Semifinal: Norway: Alessandra – Queen Of Kings (Goes to the final!) Malta: The Busker – Dance (No Go) Serbia: Luke Black – Samo Mi Se Spava (No Go!) Latvia: Sudden Lights – Aijā (Goes to the final!) Portugal: Mimicat – Ai Coração (Goes to the final!) Ireland: Wild Youth – We Are One (No Go!) Croatia: Let 3 – Mama ŠČ! (No Go!) Switzerland: Remo Forrer – Watergun (No Go!) Israel: Noa Kirel – Unicorn (Goes to the final!) Czechia: Vesna – My Sister’s Crown (Goes to the final!) Netherlands: Mia Nicolai & Dion Cooper – Burning Daylight (Goes to the final!) Finland: Käärijä – Cha Cha Cha (Goes to the final)
These songs you can listen here! Sweden and Finland are the best from these.
To the Final goes: Croatia, Moldova, Switzerland, Finland, Czechia, Israel, Portugal, Sweden, Serbia and Norway 3 countries I guessed wrong!
2023 Second Semifinal: Denmark: Reiley – Breaking My Heart (Goes to the final!) Armenia: Brunette – Future Lover (Goes to the final!) Romania: Theodor Andrei – D.G.T. (Off And On) (No Go!) Lithuania: Monika Linkytė – Stay (No Go!) Australia: Voyager – Promise (Goes to the Final!)
These songs you can listen here! Definitely not that many obvious finalists in this second Semifinal. Austria is the best from these.
To the Final goes: Albania, Cyprus, Estonia, Belgium, Austria, Lithuania, Poland, Australia, Armenia and Slovenia. 2 countries I guessed wrong!
This I’ve been dreaming quite long time. Now I have it!
If you compare the size of the camera to any other action camera it’s not big! And it shoots pictures or video all the time to every direction! Then when you’re editing the video you can choose which direction comes to the final video! Or you can make a 360° video where the person who’s watching the video can choose himself to what direction he’s watching -like this: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=k0t3UUaQci4 The editing is a little bit different because you have to think all the time which direction of the video is the best. For example when I’m going to make motorcycling videos with this there can be things happening in many directions! But luckily you can make many cuts where you’re using the different POV of the same file. Me and my friends were skiing!! For me it was the first time in more than 10 years! Ahh it was fun! So I was testing what kind of picture this camera takes and how it is to edit the video… I didn’t know the the lights in the hill can have that bothering effect to the video that everything is flickering!! Unfortunately in this video it bothers… Next time I will use some other fps (frames per second).
We’re actually going back in time to September 25th when I was riding with my friend Lauri from Karjalohja to Muurla direction. This was one of the best rides this year!
Here’s the video of that days ride!
But after about 150km’s My bike wasn’t running properly anymore! The idle running was ok but when I tried to twist the gas it started banging and didn’t take more rpm’s. My friend behind me said that there is gas smelling. We had some tools and we opened my airbox to check if the problem is there? It wasn’t… So I decided to give it a try and that was the correct decision because after few km’s I was able to ride normally…
Trying to give more GAS!
So we were able to ride the whole day but the problem didn’t disappear! One friend of mine took the bike and I asked the he would do “full service” in the same time as he was trying to find what was the problem. He had the the error reader so he just plugged the tablet that was connected to my bike and we got this:
The Speed sensor (RPM) is actually the same than so called crankshaft position sensor that gives the signal to the ignition. So it was no wonder that the engine didn’t run properly anymore. But was the sensor broken? Or was the problem somewhere else? After the engine cover was taken off from the right side it was easy to see what was the problem! The whole sensor was covered with some small parts of metal or metal dust. I had done the last oil-change already more than 2 years ago (and 8000 km’s) so it was a good warning about what happens if you don’t do service often enough! After new oil (Motul 5100 4T 15W-50), new oil-filter, new spark plugs, new air-filter and new coolant water my bike was running perfectly again! So no sensors were broken.
Surprisingly june and july were moths (in the middle of the summer) and there was almost no riding at all. But when august came… It was on again! August started with “Tour de Karis” -kind of ride around this village where I live.
28 minutes video of riding in Karjaa – Snappertuna area
And quite soon again I was riding. This time to the north side of Raseborg city. I was especially interested about this road: Malmitie – Malmvägen. It looked interesting on the map and it turned out to be even better!! (in the video it’s from 4:45 to 09:15)
Malmvägen and some offroad
Then on 7th of august I did a ride with friend. That turned out to be excellent tour from Veikkola all the way to Kisko. Best parts were in Fiskars forest and then on the north side of Kärkelä Ironworks area. First Järventaustantie then Ruonankorventie and then Ahvenlammintie. Great Roads! And I made my longest riding video so far (38 minutes!).
Long ridingvideo!
Next week we’ll have MAD (Moto Adventure Days). It’s now second time this event is happening in Finland and I’m one of the guys riding in front of some group, doing so called “punainen tekninen” routes. These are mainly big and small gravel roads added with some challenging tracks and trails. Here is the description in Finnish: Harvaan liikennöityjä metsäautoteitä, polkuja ja kapeita yksityisteitä, joille ei välttämättä kannattaisi lähteä henkilöautolla yrittämään. See you there!
New cafeteria/ motorcycle meeting place Cafe Lättis was opened few years ago. It has become very popular and if the weather is nice there can easily be 100 or even 200 bikes on sunday afternoon.
Last august we had the first ever XR-meeting there and we had even 12 or 13 BMW S1000XR bikes in the same time!
8th of August 2021
This cafeteria has homepage in facebook. They are quite active there and sharing new pictures and updates very often! This summer when I’m riding with my enduro the distance to to visit Lättis is quite long. But if you just make the route it can be made easily. This time the route was excellent!
Best ride so far this summer
The route from Veikkola Neste to Cafe Lättis was like 150 kilometers. I found trails that I did’nt ride before and especially the trail that starts from Suopellontie (Karkkila) was excellent!
In the map the route looked like this!
On the west side of Cafe Lättis there is one landowner who doesn’t want bikes or cars to ride through!
So you need to ride to the paved road of Rautakoskentie! It seemed there was al lot interesting trails on the west side of Lättis so gotta go exploring there again!
I did this already 2 months ago but finally I edited the video how I’m making the BIG impovement to my bike… Changing the rear shock from the original Continental Air Damper to Touratech “normal shock”. I hope this can help you if you’re planning this change!
